As promised, here is our experience with using the Red One Camera, chronicling our voyage beyond the still image. Looking forward to our next project featuring living art portraits. Stay tuned… After the video, take a peek at the links to see the final results.
We’re very excited about all the possibilities with converging photography and motion. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. Especially Pam, DJ and Chad over at Hallmark who championed the idea. It’s not every client who is willing to take a risk with something new and they deserve recognition for this.
Living One Sheets: Final Versions after the jump:
Concept #1: “Teacher’s Pet”
Concept #2: “Diplomacy!”

Thanks for going to the trouble of creating and posting this.

This new mix of video and photos is both exciting and scary for me. I love to shoot stills, but it seems that the ad world is changing and as photographers we have to change too.

That is absolutely amazing and revolutionary concept, Congratulation your team and you have just officially push the bar up about 10 notches. Great innovation your part, and way for your team to help pull it all together. While I cannot go get a Red camera tomorrow I will give this a shot on my own scale and post you a link to the result.
Comment by Brian Palmer 06.12.09 @ 11:05 AMThis is amazing – I think that the use of motion and photography in movie posters with HD technology is just the start. Can’t wait to see what you do next. Now have to work out how I can get my hands on a Red One!

Pingback by Shooting Living Posters with a Red One Camera [Where Video and Still Photography Converge] - Digital Photo Help 06.17.09 @ 3:15 PMBut… they… don’t loop. Why was I expecting them to loop? I know why, because that would actually be impressive. This is just video with paused video at either end, with similar poses between start and finish.
Yes, the technology has improved but this has still not been executed for a real world situation ie a continuous experience for everyone, not just one viewer. Anyone with a 5D mark II and a ton of continuous lighting could do exactly the same thing.
Comment by Jeff Plum 06.18.09 @ 12:25 AMActually we did a few versions early on that looped, but that wasn’t how they were going to be used by the client, so we abandoned them. I disagree with the implication that a loopable clip is the goal, or even the assertion that it is not valid because it is simply experienced once. The strength of these living one-sheets is in the exploitation of the context- a set of expectations and boundaries were implied and then violated for the effect.

Pingback by Red One camera in ad campaign « TOPICS 06.27.09 @ 6:25 AMIn my 40+ years of graphic design, I finally see you are doing something that combines the beauty of a static image (real photography) with the novel surprise of motion. Extremely well done. Thanks for the inside look…fascinating. Enjoyed it (almost) as much as this recently discovered footage of the making of Disneyland (Alexx, you gotta love Disney…he was a creative genius too). http://www.neatorama.com/2009/07/27/disneyland-construction-time-lapse/ There are 6 parts total. This can of 16mm was almost lost to the deep salt mine archives, but someone saw “Disney” on the label and opened it up. Enjoy!
